Part of the National Curriculum Foundation Stage
lKnowledge and Understanding of the World is one of the six areas of learning Happy Days Childcare works towards on the Foundation Stage. The Foundation Stage is the first part of the National Curriculum and is incorporated into all of our activities at Happy Days Childcare ::: find out about communication, language and literacy here
Learning to appreciate the wonders of the world as well as our reasons for talking and thinking about them are of paramount importance in this day and age. Children can develop these by exploration and investigation. They are encouraged to design and make things using many materials. They will gain awareness of ICT, time (past, now and future), of places and communities outside of their own world.

At Happy Days Childcare, for example

-  We use magnets and magnifying boxes to explore things found in our garden and there are also bird boxes and birdfeeders where we can watch all the different visitors.

- Children are also able to access keyboards, printers and electronic notebooks, which advance their I.C.T

-  We talk about families, past and present events in their lives and look closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change.

-  Seeds are planted in the garden by the children who observe their growth as the seasons progress.
